December always brings us back to Louisville — the North American International Livestock Exposition — home of the Super National Shorthorn Show. Set on the iconic green chips in Kentucky, this event stands alone as the most well-attended Shorthorn show in the nation, showcasing the biggest, the best, and the most competitive cattle the Shorthorn breed has to offer.
The January 2026 issue of Shorthorn Country featured our print ad highlighting a week we’ll never forget.
At the open show, we were honored to be the breeders of the Grand Champion Shorthorn Female, a stunning Dream Maker x Chelsie 210Z, shown by Carter Wickard of Indiana. We are incredibly thankful to Carter and the Shoufler family for the trust they placed in our program and for the job they did presenting her on the biggest stage.
Her story comes full circle. Chelsie 210Z traces back to one of our very first Our Commitment Sales in 2013 in Omaha, Nebraska, when Whitney (Walker) Urban purchased part interest in 210Z. Seeing that cow family continue to rise to the very top is what this business — and this breed — is all about.
The competition was deep in the Junior Show, where we were proud to also be the breeders of the Grand Champion Shorthorn Plus Female. This heifer was a Blacklist x Chelsie 520C — a full sister to Chelsie 210Z and herself was a highly decorated past Junior National Champion shown by Whitney (Walker) Urban. Shown by Mackenzie Neal, this heifer represents the consistency and longevity of the Chelsie cow family. We are extremely grateful to Zach McCall and Drew and Brooke Smith for their confidence in our program. She was purchased sight unseen through Divas & Donors: The Exclusive, making the moment even more special.
Louisville continues to remind us why we do what we do — the cattle, the people, and the relationships built over years of shared commitment of great cattle in any breed. We had an incredible week in Kentucky and are deeply thankful for all the support, trust, and belief in Steck Cattle.
Here’s to Louisville — the biggest stage, the best cattle, and memories that last a lifetime from the green chips.
